Description
Oda a la fortalesa (Ode to fortitude) is a symphonic poem for soprano, mezzo, women’s choir and orchestra baswed on my own text in Catalan. The text consists of sentences related to the situation of women in society (globally speaking) from my own point of view. Some of the sentences are key and helped me organized the structure, the narrative and overall dramatic feel of the work. The most important sentences in the text are: 1) Som persones primer, dones despres (Somos personas primero, mujeres después), which is stated at the beginning of the work and tells us what the music is about; 2) Endavant sense por! (Adelante sin miedo) is the other essential sentence and is a call to action.
Formally, the work has an introduction and three parts with specific emotional qualities, (although the seams are not obvious) that reflect the emotional meaning of the text.
Premiered at the Palau de la Musica Catalan on April 6, 7, 2024.
