Duende is the composer’s own arrangement for solo cello of the movement titled Duende from Colores Andaluces (published by Hofmeister Musikverlag). This arrangement is published independently by Hidden Oaks Music Co.
This arrangement for solo cello was made for Roger Morello Ross. He recorded this piece for Babylon Orchestra (video above).
Duende is a soul searching type of piece – sometimes a little dark and restless but always generous in its conception. It is my homage to the late cellist Françoise Groben and her “duende”… A term coming from Southern Spain, only certain singers and players have “duende” : inspiration, magic, fire, spirit… The word Duende was conceptualized by Federico Garcia Lorca in his Teoria del duende.
